Former Minnesota Vikings great Carl Eller will not be released from a county workhouse while he appeals his misdemeanor convictions for driving under the influence and assault.

Hennepin County District Judge Dan Mabley ruled Tuesday that the 67-year-old Eller must continue serving his 60-day sentence even as his lawyers pursue the appeal. Mabley says Eller has not shown remorse or taken responsibility for his crimes.

Eller was convicted last week. Mabley's sentence exceeded the sentence requested by prosecutors. The judge said he was trying to send a message after claiming that Eller had called police and the court corrupt and biased.
