Gagne implicated in other retirement home assaults

(AP) - A search warrant says former pro wrestler Verne Gagne assaulted fellow retirement home residents at least twice in the months before a clash that led to the death of one resident.

The Star Tribune says the document was unsealed Tuesday. It says Helmut Gutmann was the victim of an "unprovoked attack."

It says the 97-year-old was "grabbed, shaken and thrown to the ground" by Gagne on Jan. 26 at Friendship Village in Bloomington, where both men lived.

The Hennepin County medical examiner ruled Gutmann's Feb. 14 death a homicide. He died from complications of a broken hip.

The search warrant affidavit says the previous assaults were handled by staff at Friendship Village without police involvement.

Gagne, who's 83 and has Alzheimer's disease, has not been charged.
