Feds to pay $1.7 million for Red River flood cleanup

(AP) - The U.S. Labor Department is granting Minnesota nearly $1.7 million to create about 140 temporary jobs for cleanup and recovery from the Red River flooding.
The state government will receive the grant, which will create temporary jobs for repairing and cleaning public structures and land destroyed in the recent flooding.
The money could also help those temporary hires get job training when the cleanup is done. Additionally, the grant will provide some humanitarian assistance to flood victims.
Of the money announced Thursday, $560,000 will be released initially. The rest will be disbursed as the state demonstrates the need for it.
