So far, just over $36 million has been raised, but officials say another $2 million is needed before groundbreaking can begin on the Shubert.

Colin Hamilton, executive director of the Minnesota Shubert Center, said Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak will lead a rally this afternoon to generate momentum for the Shubert's capital campaign.

"And really what this is about is to remind our community how far this project has come, how very close it is to success, and hopefully generate the kind of positive activity that tips the scales, and allows us to move into construction this summer," Hamilton said.

Organizers are hoping to open the Shubert in late 2010 as Minnesota's first flagship center for dance.
