A 19-year-old Virginia man is dead after police say he fled and struck a tree with his pickup truck early Saturday morning.
The Minnesota State Patrol said Jacob T. Stellmach was traveling northbound on Highway 53 shortly after midnight when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and hit a tree about eight miles north of Virginia.
Stellmach was pronounced dead at the scene. Police didn't say why they attempted to stop Stellmach or any immediate details about the pursuit.
