Minnesota officials push work from home to cut traffic

Minnesota officials are promoting home work - all in the name of reducing roadway traffic.

The state Department of Transportation and several partners are waging a public awareness campaign aimed at getting more workers and employers to consider telecommuting.

The eWorkplace initiative has a goal of getting at least 2,700 people to sign on to telecommuting at least once per week between this June and the next one.

Transportation Department project manager Nick Thompson says that would cut down on the need for 1,000 rush hour trips daily on Twin Cities' highways.

As part of the campaign, employers can apply for a pilot program offering free or discounted consulting services to implement a work-from-home system.
