Man charged with murder in drive-by shooting

The Ramsey County Attorney's office has charged a Vadnais Heights man with second-degree murder for killing a man in a drive-by shooting in St. Paul last week.

Marquez Daiveon Storey, 18, allegedly shot Dionte Ramone Montantes in the head on the sidewalk in front of 1025 Inglehart Ave. on June 19. Montantes died several hours later at Regions Hospital.

A witness told police that Storey believed Montantes was a rival gang member, the complaint states. Storey was also charged with committing a crime for the benefit of a gang.

Several individuals interviewed by police admitted to driving in a Jeep with Storey when he allegedly got out and shot Montantes, according to the complaint.

One man told police that he exited the Jeep with Storey and witnessed the shooting. The witness said he did not know that Storey had a gun or was planning to kill Montantes.

The charges against Storey were filed yesterday, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. His current whereabouts are unknown.

A spokesperson for the Ramsey County Attorney's Office said prosecutors are considering filing charges against another individual, but a decision has not yet been made.
