A Hennepin County jury has found Hassan Mohamed Abdillahi guilty of the second-degree murder of another young Somali man.
Last September, Abdillahi, 23, shot and killed 21-year-old Abdishakur Adan Hassan outside the Village Market Mall in south Minneapolis. Surveillance cameras captured the shooting.
Hassan had gone to the mall to get his hair cut on the eve of Eid-al-Fitr, the festival that ends the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
According to police accounts, Abdillahi shot Hassan in retaliation for the killing of his cousin. There have been eight Somali-on-Somali homicides committed over the last year and a half. This is the first to have been resolved through trial.
Abdillahi will be sentenced next month. County officials say under sentencing guidelines, Abdillahi could receive a sentence of more than 300 months or 25 years
