St. Paul police shoot, wound teenage robbery suspect

Saint Paul police say an officer shot a 14-year-old boy during an apparent burglary late last night.

Two officers were responding to a call about a possible burglary when they confronted the boy outside a grocery store in the Midway neighborhood. Police shot the boy after he threw a claw hammer, which struck one of the two officers.

Police say they captured the boy after a short foot chase, and noticed the gunshot wound. The boy was taken to Regions Hospital, where he was treated before being released into police custody. The officer has been placed on standard administrative leave.
