Funeral services set for Army Ranger killed in Afghanistan

A visitation and public memorial service for one of the Minnesota soldiers who died earlier this month will be held this weekend.

Cpl. Benjamin S. Kopp, 21, died July 18 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. of wounds suffered on July 10 while serving in Afghanistan. He was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based in Fort Benning, Ga.

The visitation will be held Friday, July 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Henry W. Anderson Funeral Home in Apple Valley. A public memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at 11 a.m. in the Rosemount High School gymnasium.

He will be buried on Friday, August 7 at 9 a.m. at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

A memorial in Ben Kopp's name has been opened at Wells Fargo bank. Donations can be made at any branch. The Kopp family also encouraged people to support the Lead the Way Fund and Caring Bridge.
