St. Paul man pleads guilty to robbing elderly woman

A St. Paul man has pleaded guilty to robbing a 95-year-old woman of the necklace her husband gave her when he came home from World War II.

Forty-nine-year-old Allen James Fenton is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 22.

The theft occurred May 21 as Vivian Clausen walked her dog. She told police a man put his arm around her and said, "Hi, grandma," then jerked it off of her.

According to the criminal complaint, Fenton told police he took the necklace so he could get money to travel to Chicago, where his mother was dying. He led police to the shop where he allegedly pawned the jewelry for $100.

Online court records didn't list an attorney for Fenton on Tuesday.
