Man accused of stabbing trucker deemed fit to stand trial

A 32-year-old man who nearly stabbed a Montana trucker to death at a Moorhead truck stop has been declared fit to stand trial for attempted murder.

A county prosecutor says state doctors have evaluated Harmit Bhangu, who was committed to a state hospital.

Bhangu was arrested in January for attacking 51-year-old Dale Morigeau of Ronan, Mont., and assaulting a police officer. Morigeau survived the attack.

Psychologists testified in April that Bhangu believed he heard God order him to kill Morigeau. They said his severe hallucinations might be treatable with medication.

Bhangu will be sent back to the county jail on Wednesday.
