Four killed in head-on crash near Albert Lea

Four people have died after their minivan was apparently struck head-on by a tractor-trailer in southern Minnesota near Albert Lea.

It happened about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Interstate 90 and Minnesota Highway 13.

Witnesses tell the Albert Lea Tribune that a woman driving an eastbound Toyota swerved in front of a westbound tractor-trailer, causing it swerve into oncoming traffic and hit the minivan.

A reporter on the scene reports that four people in the van were killed. The driver of the semitrailer wasn't seriously hurt.

The names and ages of the deceased have not been released. A reconstruction team was called in to piece together how the crash happened.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed several lanes near the crash site, backing up traffic in both directions.
