Woman charged with vehicular homicide in weekend crash
A New Brighton woman has been charged today with vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal accident in St. Paul on Sunday.
According to the criminal complaint, Jacqueline Marie Wagner, 20, was driving over 60 miles per hour shortly before she ran a red light at the intersection of University Avenue and Vandalia Avenue and struck another vehicle.
The vehicle's 39-year-old driver died after his car flew into the air and crashed into a utility pole.
A police officer witnessed the accident, after being called to the area in response to a report that several hundred people were watching drag racing. The officer had pursued Wagner for speeding, but she refused to pull over, and instead accelerated, according to the complaint.
The victim has not been identified.
If convicted, Wagner could face up to ten years in prison, a $20,000 fine, or both. She will make her first appearance in Ramsey County District Court tomorrow.
