U of M new faculty orientation starts today
About 60 new faculty members at the University of Minnesota are starting an unusually intense three-day orientation at the Twin Cities campus.
Vice Provost Arlene Carney says most Big Ten universities do a day or a half-day of orientation, as Minnesota did until 2006.
That's when the university switched to a longer and broader curriculum that covers everything from being a better lecturer to just figuring out how to get around.
The orientation starts Tuesday and includes sessions at the university's East Bank and West Bank campuses in Minneapolis, and its facilities in South St. Paul.
Carney says this year's class of new faculty is about half the size of last year's due to hiring cutbacks.
