Funnel clouds give Fargo-Moorhead brief scare

Schools in the Fargo-Moorhead area were briefly sent into lockdown mode after multiple funnel clouds were reported in the sky over the area Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service said at approximately 2:30 p.m. a line of rain showers with funnel clouds was moving six miles west of Fargo, N.D.

Fargo Police Cpt. Dave Todd told KFGO radio that multiple reports of funnels from the the public and from officers prompted the city to activate its warning sirens.

The radio station said it had received an unconfirmed report of a funnel cloud touching down in a field, though neither police nor the weather service could confirm that report.

Schools in the area pulled students, some who were set to leave at the end of school day, back into the building until the all clear was given.
