An inmate being held on criminal sexual conduct charges walked away from the Beltrami County Jail in Bemidji, before being recaptured without incident the same day.
Authorities say 31-year-old Gerald Joseph Browneagle was being held for the weekend in the minimum security unit and escaped through an open door Saturday morning while a corrections officer was distracted.
He was apprehended later Saturday evening.
Authorities believed Browneagle might have been trying to return home to Cass County, but was arrested by Beltrami County authorities.
