Garrison Keillor cancels Illinois appearance

Public radio humorist Garrison Keillor has canceled a Sept. 21 event in Illinois, one week after suffering a minor stroke.

Keillor canceled the performance on Monday morning. Event organizers had initially said that doctors instructed Keillor not to fly for several weeks due to taking medication after his stroke. A spokesman for Keillor said later Monday that was untrue.

The event was scheduled to take place at the University of Illinois-Springfield. The performance will be rescheduled for later in the 2009-2010 season.

The performance at Sangamon Auditorium is one of several September dates across that country that Keillor has postponed due to doctors' orders, event organizers said.

All current ticket holders will receive tickets to the rescheduled performance.
