Minn. officials set to detail August unemployment

Will Minnesota make it two promising reports in a row on unemployment in the state?

The answer comes Thursday when the state's jobless rate for August is published. The previous report showed employers had added 10,300 jobs to help push the unemployment rate down a bit from June to July.

The rate for July was 8.4 percent, which was a full percentage point lower than the national average.

Even with the dip, 175,000 people in the state were receiving unemployment benefits. Officials cautioned that it was too soon to tell if the state economy reached a turnaround point.

The nation's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 9.7 percent.
