Marijuana found growing in Minn. wildlife refuge
Something suspicious has been sprouting in a central Minnesota wildlife refuge known for its oak savannah and wetlands habitats: marijuana.
A citizen walking in the refuge noticed the plant and contacted authorities in Sherburne County. The sheriff's office then set up a camera to spot the person tending to the plants.
Sheriff Joel Brott says investigators caught him on Thursday at the site of the growing operation in the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, which is located near Zimmerman northwest of the Twin Cities.
The suspect, a 51-year-old man, was arrested after a short foot chase and taken to the county jail where he awaits formal drug charges.
Brott says about 60 marijuana plants were growing in the refuge.
