Cold weather is a great motivator for two canoeists from Winnipeg paddling the Red River.
Murray Jowett and Nick Turnbull are headed to New Orleans. On Tuesday, they were between Grand Forks and Fargo, camping along the river.
Jowett says paddling upstream is tough work and says the two want to stay ahead of winter.
The 21-year old University of Winnipeg students plan to canoe to the headwaters of the Red near Wahpeton, portage to the Minnesota River and on to Minneapolis and the Mississippi. They expect the nearly 10,000-mile trip to take three months.
