Marathon weekend includes kids races, fitness expo

The first Twin Cities Marathon 10K will begin Saturday that will kick off the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend.

Mayor Chris Coleman will be the official starter of the new 10K course that is an out-and-back route along Summit Avenue that begins and ends on John Ireland Boulevard and 12th, in front of the State Capitol.

The 10K will have a full day of activities in St. Paul celebrating the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

More than 6,000 children and their families are expected to participate in family events that include the Twin Cities 5K, Diana Pierce family Mile, the Half Mile, the Toddler Trot and the Diaper Dash.

On Sunday, Target will host a Health and Fitness expo at the St. Paul RiverCentre, which brings in between 30,000-40,000 for seminars, food sampling, and marathon gear.

The expo is free and open to the public. Participants for the races and family events can register at the expo or up to 15 minutes before the event time.
