Closures planned at Crosstown this weekend; delays expected

Closures planned for work on the Crosstown reconstruction project are likely to cause extra congestion south of Minneapolis this weekend.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the southbound Interstate 35W ramp onto eastbound Highway 62 will close starting at 10 p.m. Friday. The ramp will be closed until noon on Saturday.

Also Friday, MnDOT is closing all lanes of westbound Highway 62 at the eastern junction of I-35W. Those lanes will be closed until 5 p.m. Saturday.

Northbound I-35W and eastbound Highway 62 will remain open. Motorists can still access westbound Highway 62 from southbound I-35W and will be able to get on northbound I-35W from westbound Highway 62.

Traffic will be detoured using Highway 100, Cedar Avenue and Interstate 494.

MnDOT says the detours are being put in place to allow for bridge demolition in the eastern junction. Work will also include re-routing traffic along southbound I-35W onto a new bridge connecting to eastbound Highway 62.
