Crosby Farm to close for deer hunt
Archery hunts have been scheduled for this month and next to help reduce the deer population in St. Paul's Highland Park area.
The city's parks department announced Monday that the hunts will take place Oct. 19-21 and Nov. 9-11 in Crosby Farm Regional Park, which is located east of the Mississippi River near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
The park will be closed to the public during the hunts, which are being organized by the parks department in partnership with the Metro Bowhunters Resource Base. The bow hunter group has worked with 10 Ramsey County parks. Since 2000, the special permit hunts have eliminated more than 650 deer.
Park officials said it's the second year they've held a hunt at Crosby Farm Regional Park. Last year, 13 deer were killed in the special hunt.
Archers are being encouraged to donate the deer meat from this year's hunt to local food shelves, although they can choose to keep it.
