Couple allegedly taught teens how to make bombs

A Prior Lake couple are charged with making explosives and aiding offenders for allegedly teaching their son and his friends how to make pipe bombs. According to the charges filed last month in Scott County, Robert and Roberta Masters thought it would be "a good educational tool." The complaints say they claim they had no idea the teens would use the pipe bombs to blew up mailboxes in Burnsville, Lakeville and rural Scott County.

The Masters' first court appearance is Nov. 2.

Five teens are suspected in at least six bombings over the summer. The complaints say one teen said the group began blowing up mailboxes at random but later targeted homes of people they knew.

A woman answering the phone at the Masters' residence declined comment.
