Sioux Falls airport officials concerned about new stadium

Airport officials in Sioux Falls say a proposed football complex designed to replace Howard Wood Field would be too close to the airport.

Airport director Dan Letellier says more work needs to be done to find alternative sites.

Moving Howard Wood to the site just west of the airport would make room for parking for a proposed events center the city of Sioux Falls is considering.

The Sioux Falls Regional Airport Authority says that the proposed site not only is too close to one of the airport's runways, a new sports complex just west of the airport filled with 12,000 people on game nights could distract pilots.

Jim Woster, co-chairman of the city's events center task force, said he was not aware of the airport officials' concerns but looked forward to learning more.

Sioux Falls Sports Authority director Mike Sullivan questioned whether the new facility would be any closer to the airport than the existing one. ---
