Xcel settles with Fargo family injured in gas explosion

Xcel Energy says it has reached a settlement with family members injured in a natural gas explosion that destroyed a south Fargo home last fall.

Xcel spokeswoman Bonnie Lund says terms of the settlement are confidential.

Luul Omar was severely burned in the Sept. 2, 2008, blast, and was in a coma for several days. She said the settlement covers her, her four children and three of her siblings.

Thirteen people were in the twin home when the south unit exploded. Xcel said it found a pinhole-size leak in the service line, which allowed gas to get into the house.

North Dakota Public Service Commission staff members are reviewing the case to decide whether Xcel should be fined for safety violations.
