Mpls. man sentenced for assaulting air traveler

A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to one year of probation for assaulting a fellow passenger aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to the Twin Cities last year.

U.S. District Judge James Rosenbaum sentenced 68-year-old Abdalla Abdi Haibe on Tuesday.

In July, Haibe pleaded guilty in federal court in Minneapolis to one count of assault within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.

According to the plea agreement, Haibe admitted head-butting and spitting on another passenger while traveling from the Netherlands to Minnesota on July 27, 2008.
