Driver charged in fatal Minneapolis hit and run
A 22-year-old man was charged Monday with criminal vehicular homicide in the death of a pedestrian in south Minneapolis.
According to the criminal complaint, David John Lund told police he was "scared and freaked out" after hitting a man Thursday night near the intersection of Minnehaha Ave. S. and E. 31st St.
Instead of stopping, Lund continued driving to his current home, which is a halfway house for people with drug and alcohol dependency, court documents said.
The Hennepin County medical examiner identified the victim as Emiliano Camilo Hernandez, 43, of Minneapolis.

Police said in the criminal complaint that a witness reported seeing the SUV hit Hernandez and leave the scene without stopping.
In addition, an off-duty Brooklyn Center officer who was driving in the area at the time reported seeing a speeding SUV approach him from behind. The officer said the SUV then swerved around him, ran a red light and turned the corner at a high rate of speed.
Lund called police the next day and turned himself in. He remains in custody.
It isn't clear if Lund was under the influence at the time of the incident, but the complaint said he told police he used marijuana, oxycontin and cocaine four days before hitting Hernandez.
