MinuteClinic, Allina announce partnership

Allina Hospitals & Clinics will team up with MinuteClinic to coordinate health care and develop a way for providers to communicate about patients' medical records.

The partnership announced Thursday will allow better care for patients, said Kenneth Paulus, Allina's president and CEO.

"By coordinating care between the retail clinic setting and our clinics and hospitals, patients can feel confident that they will be well taken care of, whether they have a minor illness or something more serious," Paulus said in a written statement.

Besides working together to develop interfaces between electronic medical records, Allina and MinuteClinic will inform patients of each other's services. The partnership also creates an opportunity to bring new services to the market, officials said.

MinuteClinic, which is a division of CVS Caremark, has 24 locations in the Twin Cities. Allina has 11 hospitals and more than 90 clinics in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Several other Minnesota health care providers have similar programs to offer quick services for common ailments.
