State to lower flags on day of volunteer deputy's funeral

A funeral service with a police procession will be held Friday for a Ramsey County reserve deputy who was killed while directing traffic near a Haunted House attraction.

Michael Wilken was hit by a car Saturday near the Fright Farm in Maplewood. He died of his injuries Sunday morning at the hospital.

Flags at the State Capitol and surrounding buildings will fly at half staff on Friday in honor of Wilken, who had volunteered at hundreds of events in 10 years as a reserve deputy with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office.

Wilken's funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi.
