Dogs seized in cruelty investigation available for adoption

Twelve dogs confiscated last month in an animal cruelty investigation will be available for adoption today.

The dogs are from a group of 30 Shih Tzus seized from a North Minneapolis home on Oct. 20.

"These dogs have come from a cruel situation where they were being neglected and so they aren't trained or socialized but we hope to find owners who have some basic knowledge of dogs, training, and a healthy environment for them," said Tom Doty, manager of field services for Minneapolis Animal Care and Control.

One of the dogs was euthanized due to medical conditions and the other 17 have special needs and will be given to different rescue groups, Doty said. When the dogs were seized, many skin conditions, missing teeth, eye problems, and feces matted into their fur, investigators said.

According to Minneapolis Animal Care and Control, all applicants for the adoption process must be at least 18 years old and must show current picture identification with a current address. The dog must have a vet check within 72 hours and an adult dog must be spayed or neutered within 30 days. The adoption fee is $90.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m., the dogs will be available for adoption at the Minneapolis Animal Care and Control located at 212 17th Ave N.
