Under pressure, Austin fire chief will retire

The Austin fire chief accused of creating a negative work environment says he plans to step down at the end of the year.

Chief Dan Wilson tells KAAL-TV he has notified city administrators of his plans to retire next month. Wilson says his decision to retire is unrelated to a recent complaint about unfavorable working conditions in the department.

Wilson rose through the ranks of the fire department to become chief in the early 1990s.
