Duluth council election goes to recount
Duluth elections officials will conduct a ballot recount next Thursday, in response to a request by a city council candidate who lost by 153 votes.
Gordon Grant, a candidate for the 4th District, received 1,779 votes in the Nov. 3 election. His opponent Kerry Gauthier garnered 1,932 votes.
State statutes allow candidates to request a recount if the difference between the votes cast for the two candidates is less than one-half of 1 percent. The outcome of this race fell within the margin to request a recount.
According to a statement released by city officials, Grant will pay for the costs of the recount.
The ballots will be counted manually, starting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 19. The recount will be held at the Duluth city hall, and is open to the public.
