State Sen. Steve Dille to retire

A longtime Minnesota state senator is announcing his retirement.

Five-term Sen. Steve Dille, R-Dassel, says he won't seek re-election next year.

Dille was first elected to the Senate in 1992. He previously served in the Minnesota House, where he was first elected in 1986.

Dille was one of eight Republican lawmakers who voted to override GOP Gov. Tim Pawlenty's veto of a major transportation spending package in early 2008. Of the eight, three others remain in the Legislature.

Dille's Senate district covers parts of Meeker, McLeod and Wright counties.
