Minn. law enforcement stepping up holiday patrols

Minnesota law enforcement is stepping up patrols and will be looking for drivers who had too much to drink.

The Department of Public Safety says Thanksgiving eve in particular and the rest of the holiday is a historically dangerous night for impaired driving. In Minnesota during the last three years, 19 people have been killed on the roads on Wednesday through Sunday of Thanksgiving week.

The extra enforcement will occur both in the Twin Cities and around the state. Officers will be on the lookout for drivers not wearing seat belts, since each year 75 percent of impaired drivers killed are not buckled up.

Public Safety officials are encouraging all with Thanksgiving plans to make driving arrangements if they will be drinking.
