Woman convicted of murdering teen in Red Lake

A Red Lake woman was convicted of murder Friday for stabbing a 14-year-old boy in the heart.

Patricia Ann Brown, who is 19 or 20, was convicted of one count of murder and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. She was found not guilty on a separate count of assault.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says evidence showed 14-year-old Jason May was leaving a gathering on the Red Lake Indian Reservation on April 12 when Brown stabbed him once in the heart, killing him.

Brown drove away and got into an altercation with two other teen boys, ages 16 and 17. Brown cut the 17-year-old's hand, causing permanent damage.

A message left for Brown's attorney after business hours Friday was not immediately returned.

Sentencing is pending.
