Meetings set on proposed Iron Range copper-nickel mine

Government agencies plan to hold two public meetings this week about the proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mining project on the Iron Range.

One is set for Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Mesabi East Schools in Aurora, weather conditions permitting. The other is Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Schwan Center in the National Sports Center complex in Blaine.

Representatives from PolyMet Mining, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and others will attend. They'll provide information about the draft environmental impact statement for the project.

Officials from the company and the agencies will be available to answer questions from the public.
