North Dakota State University's new president says he supports a outdoor smoking ban on campus.
Richard Hanson says he'll be consulting other administrators on campus to discuss possible enforcement. NDSU's university Senate has voted to support the ban, and Hanson says he's likely to sign it.
NDSU now bans indoor smoking and says smokers need to be at least 50 feet from building entrances.
The proposed ban would prohibit outdoor smoking on almost the entire campus. It exempts some private ventures, including Newman Outdoor Field, the Northern Crops Institute and private companies in NDSU's research and technology park. It would not include smokeless and chewing tobacco.
