St. Paul Winter Carnival seeks seniors for royalty

Organizers of the St. Paul Winter Carnival are seeking senior royalty candidates for the upcoming festival.

The carnival will crown three senior women and three senior men next month. The senior royalty will reign for a year, representing the carnival at parades, community festivals and other events.

Candidates must be 55 or older and live in Ramsey, Hennepin, Washington or Dakota counties.

The city parks and recreation department is taking applications through Monday.

The Winter Carnival - billed as one of the nation's oldest and largest winter festivals - runs Jan. 21 through 31 in St. Paul. It dates back to 1886 and draws an estimated 350,000 visitors each year.
