The state might have some of your money, and it wants you to have it back.
The state maintains a database of unclaimed items. The current list has more than a million items totaling over $352 million. Residents can see if their names are in the database by logging on to www.statetreasury.wisconsin.gov
To draw attention to the database, state Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass will visit the Milwaukee Public Museum on Monday to help people search for lost and forgotten items.
More than 7,000 Milwaukee County residents have more than $5,000 in unclaimed property. One person's total tops $600,000.
Sass says the database gives residents a great opportunity to see if they have extra cash they can use to pay off their holiday bills.
