35W bridge collapse trial moved back slightly

More waiting lies ahead for the people and companies involved in lawsuits connected to the Interstate 35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis.

A Hennepin County judge has pushed back the trial date for the bridge lawsuits to April 2011. The cases had been moving toward a trial beginning that March.

More than 100 lawsuits have been filed in connection with the August 2007 tragedy that killed 13 people and injured 145.

The main defendant is URS Corp., an engineering company hired by the state to assess the 40-year-old bridge.

A paving contractor working on the bridge has already settled claims it was facing as did the state. Last week, Judge Deborah Hedlund officially ordered that payments made under the settlements with Progressive Contractors Inc. be kept under seal.
