It might seem like ages ago that gas was $1.62 per gallon.
Actually, that was the lowest price recorded in Minnesota just a year ago, on Jan. 1, 2009. As the year winds up, the average price has gone up to $2.60 across the state.
AAA Minnesota-Iowa says the climb in gas prices this year has been gradual. That's a stark contrast to the volatile price swings of 2008 that led to prices approaching $4 per gallon.
The motor club says it's hard to predict how gas prices will fluctuate in 2010. It says a key factor will be the speed and vigor of the economic recovery.
