An economist for the state of Minnesota says agriculture is a solid industry in the state despite the financial crisis that shook the economy.
Department of Agriculture's economist Su Ye says Minnesota's agriculture industry is healthy and strong.
She recently compiled a report that describes how the agriculture industry contributed to the Minnesota economy in 2008.
It shows a $3 billion jump for Minnesota's agriculture cash receipts. Higher crop prices in 2008 drove the state's agriculture sales up, from $12.8 billion in 2007 to $15.8 billion.

She tells Agri News that she is certain that 2009 data will show that agriculture remained the state's second biggest employer.
