The National Weather Service says in its latest outlook that there is an almost equal chance of a major Red River flood in the Fargo area this spring.

The outlook uses the most recent snowpack conditions.

The weather service predicts an 80 percent chance of moderate flooding and a better than 49 percent chance of major flooding in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The outlook says there is a lesser chance of major flooding in the northern Red River Valley.

Last spring, Fargo residents fought off two crests of the Red River - the first at a record 40.82 feet and the second at 34 feet.
