3 dead in domestic dispute SW of Mankato

A 28-year-old man who had a restraining order against him shot and killed the woman who took out the order, killed her stepfather, then took his own life Sunday at a home near Lewisville, southwest of Mankato, authorities said.

The Watonwan County Sheriff's Office said authorities were called to the house in Antrim Township at 7:45 a.m. When they were arrived, they were told some shots were heard in the basement.

They found Ashley Ann Sullivan, 25, and Chester Michael Gronewold, 59, dead in the basement. Authorities believe they were killed by Shaun Eric Haugen, who then took his own life.

Three other people in the home, an adult woman and two children ages 2 and 15, were uninjured.

Haugen was not supposed to be at the home, authorities said.

Deputies said he had been charged in December with domestic abuse against Sullivan. He was released on bail Dec. 21, but was re-arrested Jan. 5 for violating the no contact order.

He posted bail and was released from jail on Thursday.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the State Crime Lab are helping with the investigation.
