U of M's Bruininks diagnosed with prostate cancer
The President of the University of Minnesota has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Robert Bruininks announced the news Tuesday on the U of M's Web site. Bruininks, 67, said doctors at the U found the cancer in its early stages. He said the cancer is "highly treatable with an excellent prognosis for a quick and complete recovery."
Bruininks said he'll undergo surgery on February 1, and expects to resume a regular work schedule after a few weeks of recuperation.
Bruininks said he'll continue his work as the president of the university until his previously planned retirement in June of 2011.
