Pakistani author Daniyal Mueenuddin set out to create a miniature world in his book "In Other Rooms, Other Wonders."

It was nominated for a 2009 National Book Award. The book is a collection of short stories set in Pakistan about the people in and around the household of an absentee landowner called K.K Harouni.

Mueenuddin has a Pakistani father and an American mother. He told Euan Kerr he hopes using linked stories in this way can help interpret Pakistani life for western readers.
