Authorities released the name of the Richfield man who died after his snowmobile hit a dock on Lake Vermilion near Cook about 2 a.m. Monday.
The Duluth News Tribune reports Tuesday that he's 35-year-old Thomas Dean Carpenter Jr.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Department says Carpenter was taken from the scene to Cook Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation, but preliminary information indicates that alcohol contributed to the death.
