State transportation officials were advising against travel in southwestern Minnesota on Monday because of blowing snow.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported that Minnesota Highway 19 was closed near Redwood Falls, and that U.S. Highway 14 near Sleepy Eye was nearly impassable because of deep snow drifts on the road.
Driving conditions in southeastern Minnesota were rated difficult. New snow in Duluth and along the North Shore of Lake Superior also caused difficult driving conditions, according to MnDOT.
In the Twin Cities, traffic was flowing smoothly during rush hour, likely because many commuters had the day off for President's Day. Still, the slippery conditions caused several crashes.
The National Weather Service said more light snow was possible in southern and east-central Minnesota on Monday with up to 2 inches expected by evening.
